What are your sales numbers, what should you track
May 12, 2006How to improve your website
May 22, 2006I got a fantastic lesson in perseverance the other day from my 5 year old daughter, Jade
She wanted to tight-rope walk across this 10 foot pole that was being used as a horse jump. It was about 4 inches off the ground, about 2 inches in diameter and moved when she walked on it.
After about 45 attempts, she had got 1/3rd of the way across. She was crying with frustration, but she kept trying.
I did not help too much, since, once she got past 1/2 way across, I told her how proud I was of her, and the she had done brilliantly.
She was having none of it, and it was about 8pm in the evening, she had been up since 6.30am that morning.
She finally walked across, to within a foot of the far side, and put her hand down and leaned on the post.
“Fantastic” I said, “You have done it”. “No, not yet Dad, that would have been cheating, but now that I know I can do it, I am going to show you, do you want to see me do it, Dad?”
With my heart in my mouth, I watched as she tried again, this must have been the 100th time she had tried.
And, boy did she walk calmly across, with a huge grin on her face. And stopped, at the other side, and told me.
“Sorry Dad for getting cranky, I just wasn’t sure if I could do it, but I really wanted to do it, so I had to keep trying”
It was both a humbling yet magnificent learning experience. Jade had taken on board all that I had said about, never giving up, but my goodness, she really showed me what never giving up really was.
Remember each 60 minutes is just 12 slots of five minutes, surely if a 5 year old can put in 30 minutes, us so called adults can put in 15 minutes a day to improve ourselves!
